Australian Football Championships, Darwin

The NSW Combined High Schools ERREA Boys’ Football team travels to Darwin for the National Championships from 11^th August until 17^th August.

The team has been selected from Combined High Schools, Combined Catholic Colleges and Combined Independent Schools. This year, many of the players come from the leading club teams such as Olympic, Blacktown City and Marconi Stallions. The team is travelling to the tournament to defend its title won last year in Canberra. Once there, they will compete against the other six States in a round-robin format over the six days.

At the end of the tournament, an Australian team will be selected to tour at the end of this year. In the past, current Socceroos such as Brett Emerton, Tim Cahill and Mark Schwartzer have been selected from similar tournaments. The number of A-League players is also abundant for those who have played at this level. Players of the like of Tarek Elrich (Newcastle Jets), Nigel Boogard (Central Coast Mariners), Evan Berger (Melbourne Victory) are just a few of the NSW players of recent times who have made the transition to this league. It is unquestionable that some of this year’s players will follow in these illustrious footsteps.
